The Wizard of Oz (Victor Fleming 1939) and Advice from a Caterpillar (Arthur Rackham)

There are many similarities between the fairytale worlds of Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. Perhaps the strongest message and central theme in both is not the fantasy itself but the seeking that is part of growing up. In Dorothy’s journey she receives advice from Professor Marvel, Glinda the Good Witch, and finally the Wizard of Oz. Similarly, we see in the Arthur Rackham illustration Alice getting somewhat obtuse advice on her journey.
